342 Philippine nationals evacuated from Yemen

The Philippine Embassy’s Crisis Management Team (CMT), headed by Ambassador Ezzedin H. Tago, is engaged in the process of evacuating 243 Filipino workers from Yemen to Jazan.
“The convoy of Filipino evacuees, headed by Philippine Embassy Honorary Consul Mohammed Al-Jamal, is now on the way to Jazan,” the ambassador told Arab News.
The total number of Filipino workers evacuated so far by the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh and the consulate in Jeddah stood at 342 on Monday.
On Sunday, the CMT helped evacuate 99 Filipinos who are now currently staying at Tulip Hotel in Jazan. The journey was generally safe even though the group had to pass through several checkpoints along the 215 km route.
“The group traveled in a convoy of two buses. They left the western Yemeni city of Hudaida at 7 a.m. on Sunday and arrived at the Saudi border crossing at 11 a.m,” the embassy said.
Of the 99 evacuees, 54 are male, 43 female and two infants.
“From Jazan, their flight home is being arranged,” said Consul General Leo Tito L. Ausan, Jr. “In the meantime, the CMT is providing them food until they could leave for the Philippines.”
The consul general added that more Filipino workers from Yemen were expected to be evacuated in the coming days. Before Operation Decisive Storm was launched, there were an estimated 997 Filipinos working and living in Yemen.
The embassy has advised all Filipinos who are still undecided about leaving the country to join the evacuation by contacting the CMT personnel at the Movenpick Hotel in Sanaa on [phone] or [phone].
